Once an old prison van, then owned and lived in by a friend of mine, and then my own tiny cabin on wheels. After selling on the old Talbot Express cabin van, and feeling like I had done as much as I should to the Little Brown Eriba, it felt like time for a new project.
This van was bought semi converted, with walls, floors, a ceiling light (which was actually an old caravan window fitted into the roof), a back wall (with cute windows and door) and a cooker. The rest had to be built, and I decided to do it buying as little as possible. I wanted to re-use as much as I could from the Talbot, and make the rest using foraged wood and anything I could find.
This space was not only home, but also my travelling workshop, and the back porch became my ‘messy’ space where I made signs, used power tools, and was generally chaotic without ruining the inside. During my time in this van I focused entirely on woodwork, and being able to work from anywhere meant I could spend a glorious summer on the west coast. Carving signs with the beach behind me.
