Axe & Knife
Back when I worked with only wool, my husband was the chief spoon carver for our brand and travelling shop ‘This Cabin Van’. He used just an axe and a knife, and became pretty much an expert at carving beautiful, perfect coffee scoops. As things go, he started carving less and less and moved onto other projects, and I started eyeing up his tool roll of knives.
I’ve been lucky to have a teacher close to hand and an excellent axe ready for me, and the knowledge provided to me has given me the basics of learning how to carve. My coffee scoops are a lot more rustic, with a few more imperfections and a bit more colour but this is a craft I’d like to keep chipping away at and see where it takes me.
